| Artist William Webster prepares his new art collection for SF debut. |
As volunteers scurry to price and display hundreds of items donated from the recent Gift Show at Moscone Center, one artist has packed his truck full of fine art in Palm Springs and is on the road to San Francisco. His destination is the annual Under One Roof Gift Show sale to be held at the former Tower Records store at 2280 Market Street on Aug. 9-12 and 16-19.
William Webster will be exhibiting 20 new abstracts in sizes from 18-inch squares to four by six foot single works, diptychs, and triptychs. Typically valued at $500-$3,000, he has slashed prices substantially for the benefit sale and will be donating half the proceeds to Under One Roof. In the genre of Jackson Pollock’s art, Webster’s pieces capture spontaneity, bold color contrasts, and subliminal rhythm. The results are as varied as the Bay Area’s coastal sunsets.
Webster will also be displaying his wearable art of pants and shirts - one-of-a-kind, colorful creations - with a portion of each sale supporting the cause.
An artist reception and wine tasting at the 2280 Market location will be open to the public at the Gift Sale Fri., Aug. 10, 5-7pm. Proceeds will support the 30 HIV/AIDS agencies under the umbrella of causes supported by the Under One Roof retail operation headquartered at 549 Castro Street.
