It’s Angelides!
By Kim Corsaro
Published: June 15, 2006

It seemed like the gay community couldn’t lose in the selection of a Democratic candidate to run against Gov. Schwarzenegger. Both men running in the primary supported full LGBTequality, and both men said they would sign marriage legislation in California. But it was an ugly campaign, and Californians didn’t vote in record numbers.

All of that has to change now. The five months until November’s election are going to fly by. The LGBT community cannot afford four more years of Schwarzeneg-ger. We cannot forget that he vetoed marriage equality legislation. Can you imagine: gay men and lesbians being able to legally marry in the largest state in the union? We were so close!

We cannot forgot that he’s promised to veto a bill that would educate California’s youth on LGBT history - before it even reaches the Assembly! Schwarzenegger has shown time and again that he is no friend to our community.

So we have a real opportunity now, to elect a governor who recognizes our right to full equality under the law, who has stood behind us in the past and will in the future.
Commit to supporting this campaign--plan to volunteer, write a check if you can, don’t let the ugly rhetoric that’s sure to come in the next several months dissuade you from the goal: come November, we need a new governor in California, and each and every one of our votes together can make a difference.
