Merchants Of Upper Market/Castro Honor Police Officer Lisa Frazer
Published: February 12, 2009

Supervising Sergeant Chuck Limbert honors Lisa Frazer with her new gold Sergeant badge. Photo and article by Rink

Mission Station Officer Lisa Frazer was honored at a Merchants of Upper Market/Castro (MUMC) party at the Eureka Restaurant on Sunday, Feb. 8. Frazer was promoted to sergeant and MUMC financed the new gold sergeant badge, which she and partner Nicole Miller held onto tightly. Speakers talked about the importance of LGBT officers. They detailed the history of hostility in the Castro between the gay community and the police department – clearly brought to life in the movie Milk - before the police force was diversified. LGBT officers have alleviated much of the conflict.

The importance of a police presence to deter crime was emphasized, and that is where Frazer’s abilities as a calm, professional, and patient officer were rated as exceptional. Accepting her badge, Lisa exclaimed that she was not going to allow anyone to come into her community to harm people. She has calmed situations that could have become violent, and when someone was violent she was able to bring them to justice without injuring them or herself.

It was a tribute to Lisa that the Sunday afternoon party was very crowded, and the Eureka Restaurant rose to the occasion with a hosted bar, succulent shrimp and roast beef hors d’oeuvres, and with masterful employees. Bartender Stephen Lumley and manager Matthew Walker served stiff drinks and greeted guests with a smile, and their good looks and friendliness drew second and third glances from merchants and law enforcement officers. Matthew is well known for his generosity for serving at challenging charity events.

Frazer is leaving the Castro to go to Southern Station to serve as a new sergeant. She said that she was sorry to leave her Castro beat, but that she hoped to come back. The news that future patrol shifts will include an increase in personnel was welcomed by MUMC supporters. Frazer’s supervisor in the Castro, Sergeant Chuck Limbert, will only be stationed in the Castro for the next two years, so there is a possibility that Sergeant Frazer could return as a protector of the Castro.
